We've long believed that down is one of the most remarkable and sustainable natural resources - and a new study from the International Down and Feather Bureau has backed that up!
The International Down and Feather Bureau, the international trade association of the down/feather industry, commissioned Long Trail Sustainability, an independent third-party organization that specializes in Life Cycle Assessments (LCA), to conduct an assessment of down fill compared to polyester.
This short video highlights the key findings of the lifecycle assessment:
The Life Cycle Assessment tested the impact of down versus polyester in 5 key environmental areas: human health, ecosystems, resources, cumulative energy demand and climate change. On a per ton basis, down has between 85% - 97% lower impacts than polyester in all the impact categories analyzed, and has 18 times less of an impact on climate change than polyester fill.
