Types of Closures

Hidden Duvet Closure

Envelope Closure - Portia Natural

A duvet cover opening hidden in a flange with a closure using buttons along its length. It includes a 2” to 3″ folded fabric envelope to ensure the duvet is secured inside. The buttons and button holes are hidden at the bottom edge of the duvet cover, between two pieces of fabric that form the flange edge. Flange size is usually 1” to 2”.

Hidden Sham Closure

Hidden Closure - Catalina Terra

A sham opening, hidden in a flange, with a closure using buttons along its length. The buttons and button holes are hidden at the side edge of the sham, between two pieces of fabric that form the flange edge. Flange size is usually 1” to 2”. This closure is often used when a sham is designed to be reversible.

Button Band

Button Band - Lia

A duvet cover or sham opening which is visible. On a duvet cover the button band is usually on the back of the cover 6” up from the bottom edge. On a duvet cover a zipper can be used instead of buttons. On a sham the button band is often decorative, and can be placed either vertically or horizontally on the back or front of the sham.

Knife Edge Zipper Closure

Knife Edge Zipper Closure - Fresco

A duvet cover or sham opening that has a knife edge finish, with a zipper closure. The finished edge of the duvet cover or sham can be piped. This closure is also used when a sham is designed to be reversible. A zipper can only be used in an item with a knife edge finish.

Overlap Back

Overlap Back - Valente

A style of opening for a cushion cover. Buttons are not necessary because of the overlap of the fabric. The underneath flap usually extends 4 to 6 inches under the flap above, which secures the cushion inside.
